It seems no time at all since Christmas – and now we are approaching the holy season of Lent!

We would like to thank all who participated in our Christmas Services, helped to organise dinners and parties, and fulfilled the many duties required in a host of different ways. That should cover everyone!

LENT begins on Ash Wednesday, 6th February, and we shall be having our traditional Service of Holy Communion at 7pm. This is the first of a series of Lenten Services on Wednesday evenings in February (13th, 20th, and 27th) at 7pm in the Choir Vestry when in the course of the service we shall be looking at “Hard Gospel” issues.

In addition, the Clergy Forum is organising a series of 3 Lenten Talks on Thursdays in Gortalowry House on “The Church in a wider European context”. The February meetings are on the 7th and 21st at 8pm.

The very popular Christian Aid Soup Lunches will be held this year in 1st Cookstown Presbyterian Hall from 12 noon to 2pm and are priced at £3. We are grateful to all the local businesses which provide various eatables, to all who help in any way, and to all who will support the project. The lunches provide a wonderful talking shop and meeting place for people of all denominations, and, in addition, support a very worthwhile cause!

We hope that all the aforesaid will be well attended!

MOTHERS’ UNION: This month’s meeting features the work of the Aviation Missionary Fellowship on Thursday 7th at 8pm, when the Parish Men’s Society is invited to attend and learn something of this essential Christian outreach.

SELECT VESTRY DINNER: Members and spouses always enjoy an annual get-together for food and fellowship, and this take place this year on Saturday 9th Feb in the Otter Lodge at 7.30pm.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES draw to a close at the end of the month as we approach Confirmation on Sunday 9th March at 11am. Please note that there will be a final Confirmation Preparation Service at 7pm on Sunday 27th February for candidates and parents. We are pleased to welcome the young people of Altedesert Parish (Pomeroy) to this service with their parents, and also to the Service of Confirmation!
