PRAYER CALENDAR - Iglesia Anglicana Paraguaya - December 2006

Thank you for your prayers on behalf of the church in Paraguay this year - we have really appreciated your support and thank God for his great faithfulness to us all.

May Christ's peace, hope and love enfold you and yours this Christmas.

  1. Today is the End of term service for the St. Andrew's Primary School. Pray for the pupils as they begin their summer holiday break & for the staff as they finalize all the arrangements this year & prepare for 2007.
  2. Pray for the Mission Partners tonight as they share together in a fellowship meal before many of them travel to the UK for Home Ministry leave. Give thanks for their faithful ministry here in Paraguay & pray for safety in travel & for good times of rest within their busy schedules.
  3. Pray for volunteers Niven & Lucy Bull as they settle in to Paraguayan life as well as the high temperatures & humidity. Give thanks for their willingness to accompany the young people in the San Andres evening congregation in the absence of the Butlers & in St. Andrew's School. Pray for Lucy as she studies Spanish.
  4. Pray for tonight's Leavers Service & Supper at St. Andrew's School & for each of the final year students as they are individually prayed for by members of staff. For a genuine openness to God's Holy Spirit in their lives.
  5. Give thanks that all documentation has now been completed for Luli Metcalfe & pray for all the family as they travel to the UK on Thursday. Pray too for Juana & the staff of the Esperanza Home in their absence & for God's blessing & enabling on the adoption process for baby David & for little Lujan. Give thanks for answers to prayer over the right couple to adopt David. For God's protection over staff & children.
  6. Pray for those who regularly study in the Paso a Paso course on Wednesday evenings & for the final meeting tonight. Pray especially for Diego & Nilsa as they try to work through difficulties in their marriage & for their son Tobias. That God's Holy Spirit will reveal to them the cause of the problems & enable them to be reconciled.
  7. Pray for the Diocesan event in Emboscada tomorrow. For a good time of fellowship between the members of different congregations as we worship, do practical work on site and generally relax together. Also for Bishop Andres & Estela, pastor Guillermo & Rossi, Claire & other lay leaders in Concepcion as they prepare for the Christmas services & events with children.
  8. Pray for God's intervention in the process underway for the acceptance of the FEISA degree course. It has come to an unexpected standstill in the Universities Council. Pray too for Fiona & Samantha studying Guarani & for Caroline as she travels to the UK on 19th December.
  9. Give thanks for the training received by the Enxet translation team through the United Bible Society recently. Pray for Tim as heads up this vital work in Rio Verde that God's living Word may be available & relevant to the Enxet people. For the building up of a team of Enxet readers to check over the translation drafts.
  10. Pray for the Carol Service tonight at St. Andrew's church. Give thanks for Stephen & Eileen's dedicated ministry there & pray for God's hand on this constantly changing English speaking congregation. For all those who will be returning to their own countries during the summer period.
  11. Pray for ex pupils of St. Andrew's School who left 10 or 20 years ago, as they participate in tonight's thanksgiving service. For God's blessing on their marriages & families, several of whom are current pupils, & for a deep & lasting work of God's Holy Spirit in their lives.
  12. Give thanks for the Christian witness of all the staff at St. Andrew's & the Annexe Schools - teaching, administrative &maintenance. Pray for them as the term draws to an end, that God will refresh them both physically & spiritually. Pray that God will cover all the staffing needs for next year & give thanks for Linn Tedman's restoration to good health.
  13. Pray for the Chaco pastors & lay leaders during this very hot time of year. For God's protection on them & their families in the midst of so much pressure from the society around them. May they be deeply rooted in God's Word to enable them to discern the best way forward for their communities.
  14. Pray for Ed & Mari's ministry amongst the Chaco communities. Give thanks for safe travel & the provision of a more reliable vehicle after the robbery of the other truck. For Mari's work in Red Viva & in the preparation of suitable Christian materials for children's ministry.
  15. Pray for all the Christmas activities in the local congregations. Globalisation has greatly affected Asuncion with all the materialistic trappings from first world countries. Pray that Christians will see through the glitter & share the gospel news of Emmanuel. For God's strength & vision for the city pastors & lay leaders.
  16. Give thanks for all the children's clubs which have functioned this year through the local congregations. Pray for the special end of year events this weekend. Also today the "Comedor" in Zeballos Cue has its closing programme before it breaks for the summer period. Give thanks & pray for the adults & young people who have faithfully served there.
  17. Pray for the congregation in Remansito. For lay leaders Salomon & Magdalena & their family & for Luis who leads the young people. For Vanessa & her team with the children's ministry. Give thanks & pray for those who regularly give their time & energy to the work there, that they may have rest & refreshment over the very hot summer weeks.
  18. Pray for God's protection over the Anglican Centre in Rio Verde & for strength for Genaro & Clorinda & their family. For wisdom in handling the constant arrival & departure of patients & the need for good maintenance of the site. Give thanks for the abundant rain that has fallen in the Chaco over the past weeks & pray that the crops sown may give a good harvest. Pray for bishop John's visits to the Chaco this week.
  19. Pray for David Powell & Ed Brice & the completion of the book celebrating the 100th Anniversary this year of Anglican ministry in the Chaco. Give thanks for David's continuing good health & pray for his wife Elsie. For wisdom over the date for launching the book.
  20. Pray for pastor Luis & Regina as they accompany the congregation in Zeballos Cue. For the family members who remain in their own house in El Mirador & for continuity of the ministry to the congregation there
  21. Pray for pastor Cefe & Ana & the lay leaders in Roque Alonso, that God will guide over outreach in the Limpio & Emboscada area. Give thanks for the first stage of the Retreat Centre in Emboscada & pray for Adelio & Isabel as they look after the site. Pray especially for Isabel's health.
  22. The first initiatives to bring electricity to the Rio Verde area of the Chaco have been taken, but 20 kms of the Transchaco Road which will link up the electricity for the area, still show no signs of attention. Pray for a successful outcome to the project & a good administration of it. Meanwhile pray for smooth functioning of the solar panels, transformers & computers in the Translation Office during the hot weather. For Asuncion, Juan, Martin & their families & for the financial support needed for them in 2007.
  23. Pray for Bishop John on his 66th birthday tomorrow! For God's guidance for him & Judie as they prepare for retirement in 2007 & for the Nominating Committee as they prayerfully consider the person to take on the ministry as diocesan bishop in Paraguay.
  24. Pray for the services in all the congregations tonight - in Concepcion, the Chaco & the urban areas in Asuncion May we all be encouraged & strengthened in our faith as we reflect on Christ's coming - Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Prince of peace.
  25. Christmas Day - Pray for those who are in hospital or unable to share with their families on this special day. For God's strength & love to support them. Give thanks for God's family throughout the world.
  26. Pray for those from Paraguay who will be participating in the course for Youth Leaders in Chile. For safe travel & smooth adjustment to another climate & culture. For God to raise up more leaders for this vital ministry.
  27. Pray for pastor Tony & Chris & family as they shortly take their summer break & for God's blessing & guidance for those in the Villa Guarani congregation who remain in Asuncion during the summer.
  28. Pray for Chris & Alison Hawksbee & their family. For wisdom & discernment for Chris as he advises the indigenous leaders in the development of their land. Pray too for all the congregations in La Patria, for the deacons & lay leaders & for bishop Andres' visits to them.
  29. Pray for the Mission Partners who are on Home Ministry leave in the UK. For the visits to link churches, the forthcoming SAMS conference in Dalesdown & for times of rest & spiritual refreshment.
  30. Give thanks for successful hip surgery for Don Benitez from El Estribo & pray for the indigenous patients still in hospital. Pray too for the right moment for Romualdo's little daughter in Makxawaya to have surgery on her twisted foot. Pray too for Beryl Baker in her Chaco clinic & give thanks for all the medical volunteers who have accompanied her this year. Pray for continued help for her during 2007.
  31. Pray for God's guidance for the Anglican Church in Paraguay as we enter a new year. Give thanks for God's faithfulness to us & pray that we may serve him faithfully with a balanced vision for worship & praise, evangelism, discipleship, fellowship & service.
