Dear Prayer Partners,

Dear Friends,

Although we realize it's holiday time in the northern hemisphere, we trust that there will be time to remember us in prayer throughout August. There is much spiritual darkness here and we value your support.

Every blessing in the Lord,

John and Judie Ellison

Prayer Calendar - IGLESIA ANGLICANA PARAGUAYA - August 2004

Jude v.20 "...build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love......."

  1. 1 Give thanks for the 46 volunteers from England & Ireland who have been, and are still working with us through Project Paraguay. Pray for Phil Grainger & each group member now working in Concepcion & in the Chaco. Give thanks for God's protection on them & for their good relationships with the local churches. Pray for our continued interdependence in ministry.
  2. Pray for the staff & pupils at St. Andrew's School as the new term has restarted. For wisdom for Gwen Carlisle & her Senior Management Team as they consider next years staffing needs. Give thanks for Mags Southern's 50th birthday last Friday & pray for her in her ministry as Deputy Head & as Head of Primary of St. Andrew's School & also as Diocesan Treasurer.
  3. There have been many complex situations over the last few weeks, where we have seen God's mercy & guidance. Give thanks for the recovery of 2 children who, on different occasions, ran into a main road in front of Diocesan vehicles driven by Alberto Cabaņas & Esteban Romero - also for safety for Bishop John & Judie involved in a multiple collision when on their way to a funeral. Pray for the motorcyclist who is in hospital with a badly fractured leg.
  4. Pray for the President of Paraguay as he brings in a tax reform which will ensure that tax is more widely paid. The present very deficient system means that basic national needs in health, education & transport are not being met & much suffering ensues. Pray for the politicians, that confidence may be built up & the money be seen to be used wisely for the benefit of the nation.
  5. Pray too for God's protection as there is increasing violence on the streets. Pray for Lina (Diocesan secretary) whose brother Roberto was attacked with a knife & who has now died from his wounds, leaving his wife & a 7 year old son. For pastor Luis's brother in law who was hit by a stray bullet in the street and is now paralyzed from the waist down. He and his wife have a 2 month old baby.
  6. Pray for Patrick & Rosie & the 8 team members as they prepare for a new service in San Andres church in the centre of Asuncion. The aim is to provide a spiritual home for the many young people who have been contacted & challenged by the gospel through the EJE programme.
  7. Pray for staff & students at FEISA & for a solution to the "document saga" for Chilean lecturer Marisol, & for those holding English degrees. Pray for the students on teaching practice this term & for Eileen Murphy as she prepares for her retirement at the end of the year.
  8. Give thanks for the steady work being done by the translators accompanying Tim Curtis in the translation of the Old Testament into Enxet. For their growing knowledge of Spanish & computer skills. Pray for protection for their families & for Genaro & Clorinda as they care for the Anglican Centre in Rio Verde. Pray especially for the team of volunteers staying there at present, who are working in the nearby indigenous community of Yatnata. For good fellowship between them all.
  9. Give thanks for the completion of the building in Remansito by the Project Paraguay team. Pray for pastor Cefe, Ana & the many lay leaders as they work amongst children & their parents in this very poor area near to the banks of the River Paraguay. For the main congregation in Roque Alonso.
  10. Pray for the weekly CALEB leaders meetings on Wednesday mornings as we study & discuss marriage preparation materials & marriage counselling, recognizing the acute lack of examples of faithful Christian marriage here & the complexity of family relationships. For all the preparations for the next EMA weekend & for the follow up meetings from the previous one.
  11. Pray for God's guidance over the leadership of the congregation in Formosa & for pastor Alberto as he continues to visit & encourage the group. For lay leaders Hector, Pochi & Nora. For clearer vision & communication with the diocese of Northern Argentina & wise decisions for the future.
  12. Pray for the indigenous pastors & lay leaders in the many Chaco churches. Give thanks for those with outstanding leadership gifts & pray for God to continue to raise up younger men & women in this ministry. For courage & strength to withstand the negative influences from the surrounding society. For God's protection over their health in these very changeable winter weeks.
  13. Pray for all the SAMS Mission Partners here in Paraguay & our time together tonight. For God's Holy Spirit to unite us, teach us & encourage us in his service. Pray for wisdom & vision for the supporting Mission agencies like SAMS & Latin Link as they confront & work through changing patterns in mission & its support today.
  14. Pray for release from pain in the sciatic nerve for Ed Brice as he continues in-service training with the Chaco pastors & leaders. Pray too for Mari as she works on materials for the Chaco Sunday schools & in her ministry with Red Viva. For the provision of a newer vehicle & for safety in travel.
  15. Tomorrow is Children's Day in Paraguay, commemorating the children who were sent to fight in the War of the Triple Alliance. Pray for the activities in St. Andrew's & the Annexe Schools & in the local churches. For the Sunday Schools in local churches, giving thanks for each teacher.
  16. Pray for God to raise up more Christian indigenous leaders to work in the more isolated Chaco villages. Pray that each village may have Christian teaching & people able to read God's Word.
  17. Pray for Murray & Penny Metcalfe & others as they consider plans to open a Foster Home, under the auspices of the Anglican Church, for children awaiting adoption. Give thanks for offers of support & pray for God's overruling & guidance.
  18. Pray for pastor Jorge, Rebeca & the congregation in Luque. For God's guidance as they pray over his purposes for them both in the immediate area & also in San Lorenzo. For more musicians.
  19. Pray for auxiliary bishop Andres, Estela, pastor Guillermo & Rossi, Claire & Alison as they consolidate work amongst children & build up the ministry to young people in Concepcion. For wisdom over outreach in the centre of the town amongst more middle class people & for the group studying the guitar each Saturday. For resources to repair the church roof & guttering.
  20. Give thanks for the building work done through Project Paraguay in Colonia San Juan, 56 kms outside Concepcion. Pray that it may be greatly used as a Christian centre for the Concepcion area & for the lay leaders there, Don Toto & Doņa Tita & their family. For the group in Yvapobo
  21. Pray for wisdom & vision for bishop Andres as he builds up contact with the deacons in the La Patria community in the Chaco - Robert, Agripino, Mario & Niņo Pepe. For adequate time to give biblical teaching so that they in their turn can teach others. For safety in travel.
  22. Pray for the pastoral team at St. Andrew's Church & for the Alpha follow up meetings. Give thanks for so many lives touched by God as people live temporarily in Paraguay. For those who have recently moved on to other countries to work & for others to participate in a leadership role.
  23. Tomorrow Phil Grainger & the Project Paraguay team return to the UK. Give thanks for the encouragement of their time amongst us & pray for their safety in travel. Pray that things learnt & shared across very different cultures may continue to be a blessing for all involved.
  24. Pray for the group of lay leaders, both men & women, studying in the Paso a Paso course on Wednesday evenings. May this opportunity to reflect & discuss together on God's Word bring blessing to all the local congregations. For Bishop John as he leads it.
  25. Give thanks for the witness of Zeballos Cue church. Pray for pastor Alberto, Ester & the lay leaders & the regular Bible study groups & youth meetings. For many who still do not have adequate work & for Mauro & Maria as they open a small shop in their home. For the music group & others studying the guitar. Give thanks that several young people are studying university courses.
  26. Pray for Beryl Baker in her busy Chaco clinic, especially during these winter months when there are many different respiratory problems. For more adequate times of rest & relaxation for her & for volunteers to accompany her for short term periods. Give thanks for visits from friends this year.
  27. Pray for Miguel & Olga as they keep up the struggle against alcohol & for pastor Agustin & Teresa as they minister to them. For the congregation in San Andres preparing soon to move back into the repaired cathedral building. Give thanks for God's wonderful provision for these extensive repairs & pray for vision & wisdom as the ministry develops in the city centre.
  28. Pray for Patrick & his team in the preparatory meetings tomorrow for EJE Roque Alonso, which takes place next weekend, 3-5th September. For God's protection on each person involved.
