Prayer Calendar - IGLESIA ANGLICANA PARAGUAYA - February 2004

"Humble yourselves...under God's mighty hand...Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" 1 Peter 5:6-7

  1. Give thanks for the Bible School which took place last week in the Chaco. Pray for encouragement & wisdom for the indigenous pastors, deacons & their assistants as they minister in the different communities at a time of tremendous change & pressure.
  2. Pray for Ed Brice as he spends time with pastors Elvio & Teodoro in Sombrero Piri. Being near to the main Transchaco Road has many negative consequences. Pray for wisdom for the community, especially the leaders, that they may seek the good of all & learn to use well their land.
  3. Pray for the preparations for the Sunday School teachers course for indigenous & rural churches taking place in Concepcion 10-15 Feb. There has been a very positive follow up from last year's course. Pray for Claire Holmes as she co-ordinates it & for Mari Brice in the organization of materials & manuals for the teachers in the Chaco Sunday Schools this year.
  4. Pray for the teaching staff at St. Andrew's School as they restart tomorrow with a Bible meditation & in service training. Give thanks for the provision of sufficient English staff this year & pray for volunteer teachers Lisa & Anita, both from Latin Link, & for Hannah (SAMS Ireland) as she remains for a further year.
  5. Pray for God's direction & wisdom over the leadership in the city centre ministries, especially for the team meeting on Sunday afternoon. Give thanks for new medical possibilities for pastor Agustin as he explores surgery for his eye, affected when a child through being struck by lightning. Pray for wisdom for the surgeon & funds to cover the costs. For Teresa & the family.
  6. Pray for Mission Partners who have been in the UK for Home Ministry visits to link churches. Pray for a smooth re-adaptation to the hot Paraguayan climate & culture, & for their children as they restart school in a Spanish speaking environment. For God's blessing on their families back home.
  7. Give thanks for the Youth Camp in January. Pray for those who made a commitment to Christ for the first time & for their discipleship & good integration into a local church. Pray for wisdom over the possibility of setting up a Youth Commission to organise different events this year.
  8. Pray for Patrick & Rosie as they restart the EJE follow up groups & the preparations for the next two EJE weekends in April. For good health for Rosie as she awaits the arrival of their third child. Give thanks & pray for Stephanie Cribb who will cover Rosie's school classes for the first term.
  9. Pray for all the delegates taking part in the Sunday School training Course in Concepcion which starts tomorrow, and for those in leadership roles, especially Claire Holmes, Mari Brice, pastor Guillermo & bishop Andres. For all the practical arrangements & those who help with the catering.
  10. Pray for the planning for the diocesan Easter week retreat which brings together church members from all the different churches in Asuncion, Roque Alonso, Luque, San Lorenzo & Quyquyho. For creative ways to raise funds to cover costs, especially as many families have no steady income.
  11. St. Andrew's School restart its academic year tomorrow. Pray for the opening service & for all the pupils, especially those new to St. Andrew's. For School Head Gwen Carlisle & the Heads of Departments as they meet with parents this week & for the unity of the Holy Spirit amongst all the staff, both teaching & administrative/maintenance. Pray for God's strength & wisdom for Mirian de Greco, the school Administrator & Alberto Cabañas, head of maintenance. Pray too for the Annexe School pupils as their classes commence. For Head Victor Santa Cruz & his staff.
  12. There is a visit to the Chaco scheduled for today & tomorrow to take the Minister for Child & Youth Affairs, for orientation to the Chaco reality. Give thanks that anti parasite medicines have been donated through this government department & pray for links to be consolidated for the benefit of the indigenous communities. For safety in travel.
  13. Pray for Osvaldo Recalde as he continues to work as a link person with patients from the Chaco & with the hospitals & government entities in Asuncion. Pray for safety in his many journeys & for his wife María Luisa & family in Quyquyho. For the preparations for distributing school materials to the Chaco schools, giving thanks for a donation to buy the exercise books, pencils etc.
  14. Pray for Phil Grainger & those who are considering volunteer work in Paraguay during July & August this year. Give thanks for the interest & concern of many Christians in England & Ireland. Pray for the good co-ordination of projects & teams & the provision of sufficient resources.
  15. Pray for the congregation in Zeballos Cue & for the building up of the leaders there, especially for Paolo & Gloria & their family. For wisdom for pastor Alberto, Ester & family as they minister there & for the starting up of home groups & youth groups after the summer break.
  16. Give thanks for the growing group of young people in the Formosa congregation. Pray for more adult members & for the leadership of the church. For pastor Alberto as he continues to combine regular visits to Formosa with his responsibilities in Zeballos Cue & for improved communications with the Northern Argentine diocese. Pray for spiritual health for Miguel Rodriguez.
  17. Pray for pastor Cefe, Ana & family. For God's grace & wisdom for his son Esteban, as he & Iris commence their married life. For the main church in Roque Alonso, the annexe congregations in Mirador, Remansito & Quyquyho & for the many lay leaders.
  18. Give thanks for stronger links with the indigenous hospital in Asuncion,( which still functions mainly as a hostel). Pray for Osvaldo as he plans a visit to isolated communities with a team of nurses from the hospital. Give thanks for the goodwill & interest & pray for a hospital in the Chaco.
  19. Pray for the annexe churches around Concepcion, in Tacuati, San Juan & Yvypobo. For God's guidance for the lay leaders & those who visit from Concepcion. Pray too for all the children's groups & for each leader. A new group has begun in Sra. Margarita's home in Concepcion. Pray that she may grow in confidence to take on more responsibility in the leadership.
  20. Pray for the preparations for the St. Andrew's Primary School camp this month & for each leader & pupil who attend. For safety in travel & on camp & for a work of the Holy Spirit in each child's life. For the new term starting in the university faculty FEISA & for strength & wisdom for Eileen Murphy, Sra Estela & all members of staff. For each student commencing the course this year.
  21. Pray for Tim Curtis & the Enxet translation team as they continue their studies to improve knowledge of Spanish & translation skills. For the revision underway of work completed & for God's protection on all people, buildings & equipment in the Anglican Centre in Rio Verde. For Genaro & Clorinda Riquelme & family, as they take over the care of the site.
  22. Pray for Bishop Andres as he plans his activities this year, to cover both rural & Chaco needs. For Estela & the family in the many demands on them in Concepcion & for Andres's elderly mother who needs constant care & attention. For Bishop John & Judie in their diverse ministry & as they seek to encourage the national leadership.
  23. For Alison Crawford as she builds up the ministry amongst young people in Concepcion. Give thanks that many went to the diocesan Youth Camp & pray for their growth in commitment & for strength to overcome the challenges of daily life. For pastor Guillermo, Rossi & family.
  24. Pray for pastor Jorge & Rebeca & the team working in Luque & San Lorenzo. For guidance over a couple to accompany the Paraguayan team in the development of the ministry & for Andy & Liz Cain ( ANCC) who now believe that they should stay in the UK for further training.
  25. The weekly pastors & leaders CALEB meetings restart this morning. Pray for us all as we share & worship together & discuss plans for this year.
  26. Pray too for God's guidance over those participating in the Paso a Paso lay leaders course on Wednesday evenings. For God to raise up national leaders in the Anglican church who are prepared to study & obey God's Word. For wisdom over a salary for pastor Luis Echeverría who is needed in full time ministry in the Roque Alonso area.
  27. Give thanks for Stephen & Eileen Trew's willingness to head up the pastoral team in St. Andrew's Church & for the good attendance each week. For guidance over outreach this year.
  28. Pray for God's strength & good health for Beryl Baker in her Chaco clinic & for wisdom over the further training of health auxiliaries this year. For increased commitment from each health auxiliary & spiritual strength to stand firm in an area where shamanic practices are very strong. For God's love to fill the indigenous Christians & release them from fear.
  29. Pray for the congregation in Villa Guarani & the building up of a pastoral team alongside pastor Tony & Chris. For wisdom over the development of the adjoining site. For Tony & Chris & other leaders in all the preparations for the next EMA weekend.
