Prayer Calendar - IGLESIA ANGLICANA PARAGUAYA - January 2004
"Because of the Lord's great love for us....his compassions never
fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Lam. 3:22-23
- As we start the New Year give thanks that God's compassion is new every
morning, every week, every year & pray that as a diocese, we may be
faithful to Him, as He is faithful to us.
- Pray for pastor Cefe & Ana as they visit Quyquyho this weekend &
for lay leaders, Osvaldo & Marķa Luisa Recalde. For God's blessing on
pastor Cefe's son, Esteban & Iris (who were married on December 15th) ,
as they begin their new life together.
- Pray for all the staff - teaching, administrative & maintenance - of
St. Andrew's & the Annexe Schools as they rest & relax during their
summer holiday break. For safety in travel & spiritual & physical
refreshment for each one. For those who have particular family problems to
confront.
- Pray for the Paraguayan young people who travel to Chile today for the
Provincial Youth Camp in Chol Chol: 5 - 11 Jan, that they may experience a
real deepening of their faith & knowledge of God as they share with many
other South American young people. For safety in travel.
- Pray for the many congregations in the Chaco communities during this very
hot summer month & for their pastors, deacons & lay leaders. For
perseverance as they develop their land & for adequate rainfall for the
crops.
- Give thanks for several indigenous patients who have successfully received
surgery & are now recuperating well, & for the way God provided for
the much needed medicines & surgical equipment. Pray for Osvaldo as he
liases with different government organisations & hospitals in Asuncion
to obtain the best treatment for our indigenous brethren & continue to
pray for a hospital in the Chaco.
- Pray for Bishop John, Judie, Rosie, Patrick & family & Liz &
Hugh & family, as they all return today to Asuncion by bus from their
family holiday (together with Richard) in Brazil. For safety in travel &
for God's blessing on their remaining week together. For Richard back at
work in the UK.
- Pray for all the Mission Partners who are in the UK on home ministry
leave. For their visits to link churches & for good time with family
& friends. For space too to receive from God & be renewed in their
vision & discernment for their different ministries, as they return to
Paraguay in February.
- Pray for the congregation in Concepcion in its desire to consolidate &
build up the work in the city centre & for wisdom over a firmer control
of the indigenous hostel. For the wide ministry amongst children & the
congregations & their leaders in Yvypobo, San Juan, Tacuati, Nueva
Mestre & Santa Elisa. For God's strength for Bishop Andres & Estela
& the team working with them.
- For the members of the Villa Guarani congregation who are not away on
holiday, as they meet for Holy Communion tomorrow. For God's wisdom &
direction for Feliciano & Rosa as to where they can best serve the Lord
this year. For Feliciano's contacts with the Annexe School.
- Pray for Patrick & a group of young men who travel to the Chaco
tomorrow for a time of Bible Study & reflection in the Anglican Centre
in Rio Verde. They have all experienced an awakening of their faith through
the EJE weekends. Pray that they will come into a deeper relationship with
God.
- Pray for Latin Link volunteer, Anita Urgyan as she arrives today &
adjusts to Paraguay, before commencing her teaching role at St. Andrew's
School. Pray too for volunteer Lisa Hall, also teaching in the secondary
department & for Hannah Collins as she stays on another year in the
Pre-primary section. Praise God for the willingness of those who come as
volunteers to serve here.
- Pray for the 3 translators & their families as they rest back in their
communities this month. For Tim Curtis as he spends time in reading
commentaries & other Bible Society literature & checks the first
draft of Exodus. Give thanks for his restful holiday last month & pray
for stamina during these very hot summer months. For God's protection on the
buildings & equipment in Rio Verde.
- Pray for all the city pastors & their families as they take a much
needed summer break. For good rest & time with the family & a
renewed vision of God's purposes for them this year. For the lay leaders who
guide the congregations in their absence.
- Pray for Mario & Rosa Caballero & family as they resettle into
life in El Estribo & pray for Genaro & Clorinda Riquelme & their
family as they take over the work in the Anglican Centre in Rio Verde. For
God's blessing on their participation in the church in Rio Verde & for
good relationships with the translators & their families.
- Pray for the congregation in Zeballos Cue with all the pressures that come
from lack of work & very inadequate housing. For those who have been
able to slightly improve their conditions, that they may keep their faith
strong & not be seduced by material things. For God's protection on the
children.
- Give thanks for those who responded during the Billy Graham "Mi
Esperanza" TV evangelism & pray for their growth in faith. Also for
the follow up to the evangelistic campaign in Palo Blanco, Chaco last month.
- Pray for the witness of the St. Andrew's English speaking congregation in
Asuncion. For a real breakthrough with those who maintain only a slight
social or traditional contact with the church. For safety & rest for all
who are away on holiday at the present time.
- Give thanks for the work being done on San Andres cathedral & pray for
the next stage of redevelopment. There are many areas which need to be
covered through ministry in the city centre. Pray for wisdom in the
leadership of these & for the building up of a team ministry where there
is vision & trust. For pastor Agustin & Teresa & their family as
he reintegrates after his studies.
- Pray for good health & strength for nurse Beryl Baker as she prepares
to train further some of the volunteer health auxiliaries in the Chaco. That
a time of rest may be possible during these extremely hot summer months.
- Pray for the Diocesan Youth Camp as it starts today until 25th Jan. as
this year the purpose is to invite non Christian friends. Pray for their
integration & for good fun & for safety throughout the camp. For
Bishop Andres as he gives the evangelistic talks & for the other
leaders.
- Pray for wisdom for Patrick & Rosie as they respond to the challenge
of many young people for whom EJE has become a spiritual home & who have
not so far become integrated into local churches. For God's guidance over
how to further encourage & disciple them.
- Pray for the President of Paraguay - Nicanor Duarte Frutos & his wife
Gloria, who attend an evangelical church in Asuncion. For protection for him
as he begins to expose & tackle the deep levels of corruption with this
society & for wisdom over the implementation of a tax reform.
- As part of the general educational reform here, FEISA & St Andrew's
School are caught up in the problem of equating British degrees to
Paraguayan degrees. Pray for wisdom & a just solution to enable those
who have studied in Europe to continue their teaching role. For patience
& tranquillity of spirit as new instructions are continually received
from the Ministry of Education. Pray for Sra. Estela in her key role in
FEISA & for Eileen Murphy as she supports her & prepares for her own
retirement at the end of the year.
- Pray for the family of little Saul Romero who have still not received news
of the whereabouts of their son & live with the agony of uncertainty.
For pastor Alberto & the congregation in Zeballos Cue as they support
them. Give thanks that Alberto's son Elias has obtained work.
- Pray for the Bible School this week in the Chaco & for Ed Brice in his
teaching role among the Chaco leadership. For Mari as she co-ordinates &
develops teaching materials for the Sunday Schools in the Chaco churches.
Pray too for the congregation in Rio Verde & the relationships between
Paraguayan & indigenous believers.
- As we feel the deep pain caused by the current conflict & division in
the Anglican Communion, pray for our relationships with other evangelical
churches in Paraguay. For God's wisdom & discernment over future
leadership in the Paraguayan Anglican Church.
- Pray for physical & spiritual refreshment for the team working in
Concepcion. Pray for pastor Guillermo as he prepares to continue his studies
this year. For Claire & Alison during the heat of the summer & as
they continue to build up the ministry amongst children & young people
this year.
- Continue to pray for the Bible School in the Chaco this week & for
each of the indigenous church leaders. Pray especially for wisdom &
understanding for pastor Lucio in his ministry in El Estribo.
- Pray for the congregation in Luque & the ministry amongst families in
San Lorenzo. For pastor Jorge & Rebeca, giving thanks that they have
obtained a second hand vehicle & for the team in San Lorenzo as they
restart the programme after the summer break. For God's guidance over the
development of the ministry there.
- Give thanks for the provision of a new computer for Juan Martinez, one of
the Enxet Bible translators. Also for the help & advice given by the
United Bible Society, praying for Tito Lahaye as he visits translation
projects in South America on their behalf. For Helen Lahaye as she takes a
break from teaching at St. Andrew's School & is able to accompany Tito
in his travels.
